OUR MOST USEFUL POST EVER! (recycling calendar)

Here at Warden Towers, the end is fast approaching.  Tomorrow is Helen’s last day, and Oz will be finishing on Christmas Eve  but before we go, allow us to present what may well be OUR MOST USEFUL POST EVER!!!!

Hot off the press we have a list of which days in 2016 your Moseley and Kings Heath recycling will be taken, and a colour code map to find out whether your road is a blue road or a red road (as recycling is taken every other week).

Here is a map showing which roads are blue (week 1) and which roads are red (week 2)

and here is a calendar showing if each Friday recycling collection is a blue week or a red week (ignore the black circles, they are not part of this chart!) Please remember that bank holidays may slightly change these services.

Police Community Update 12/12/15

There will be a faith watch patrol tomorrow ( 12/12/15 ) between 1000 hrs and 1100 hrs starting from The New Life Baptist church , Kings Heath opposite the ASDA store on the High street.  If you are from one of our local churches and wish to take part and haven’t done so before, please email your name and date of birth to the team email account for the attention of Sergeant Anna Wilson. This is required for security and insurance purposes.

With the increase in seasonal shopping activity on our high streets it is vital that we are mindful regarding personal security. Please make sure you keep valuables close by and take simple steps such as securing wallets and purses and keeping handbags shut. We can see a seasonal bag dipping increase as the crowds get bigger in the lead up the Christmas. Unattended hand bags at the rear of shopping trollies, even if left for a second are regularly targeted.

There have been a number of vehicle offences sporadically  across the ward over the last week. There have been offences in the following roads – Goodby road,  High st, Station road, The Hawthorns, Strensham Hill, Oxford road, King Edward road, Drayton road, and two incidents on Trafalgar road one of which was tools left inside a van. Of these offences, three have been theft of motor vehicle and three theft from motor vehicle.  Please think about vehicle security and ensure vehicles are locked and no valuables are left on view.

On a positive note there have been no house burglaries over the last week on the ward. We should not however be complacent and at this time of year should all be mindful of darker night issues and home security

03/12 Weekly Update from your Local Policing Team

·         The team have been patrolling in the wind and rain this week!!

·         We recorded 4 house burglaries on the Moseley/Balsall Heath border this week – roads targeted were Forest Road, Elm Bank, Trafalgar Road and Church Road.  Entry was gained by forcing or smashing front or rear doors to the premises.  The team will be working with other departments to try and identify the offender/s and prevent any further offences.  You can reduce your chances of being burgled by putting lights on timer switches when you’re out (we do have a small supply – if you need a timer switch, please reply to this email), reviewing your external lighting and not leaving expensive items/presents on view if you’re out.  If you and your neighbours are interested in starting a Neighbourhood Watch or Street Watch Scheme, please let us know.

·         There were also a number of vehicle crimes across the ward involving smashed windows.  Sat Navs, parcels and number plates have been stolen from cars this week.

·         The team held several speeding operations across the ward this week.  We’ve issued several speeding tickets, reported one driver for driving at 51mph in a 30mph zone and seized his car for being uninsured!

·         You may have seen footage on social media and in the news about a racist incident on the No 50 bus in Moseley whereby an offender verbally abused a Muslim lady.  After excellent work by one of the team, we identified this male and arrested him in Kings Heath this week.

·         In other good news, we secured the ward’s first ‘Community Behaviour Order’ (CBO) this week against a Moseley street drinker who caused anti-social behaviour in the Village for many months by drinking in the street, begging from passers-by and other alcohol related incidents/ASB.  The CBO places restrictions on the individual including not to enter Moseley Village, loiter in doorways or consume alcohol in public.  The team will be monitoring the CBO and dealing with any breaches.  A big thank you to everyone who has provided statements, evidence and information concerning ASB in Moseley – community evidence was essential in securing this CBO.

·         Finally, West Midlands Police wish to inform you that the current security state across the country is at its second highest level – SEVERE – meaning a terrorist attack is highly likely.  Recent tragic events around the globe have seen terrorists target crowded places.  WMP work tirelessly around the clock with the business community and other partners to keep the public safe and secure.  Despite the unhelpful rumours currently circulating, we continue to ask people to remain alert but not alarmed.

·         Do follow us on Twitter – we post photos and useful information aplenty @MoseleyKHeath

Have a safe week!

Christmas Crime Advice

christmas crime

Hello All,  here are a couple of things to keep in mind over the holiday season, to keep your valuables safe:

Drive Offs:

The area has already had its first seasonal ‘drive off’ – this is when a car owner leaves their car ‘warming up’ with the keys in and someone (who has been watching the area) nips in and drives off!  Please don’t leave your car unattended in the morning, there really are people waiting for an opportunity!

Presents:

Think about where your wrapped gifts are, and particularly are they visible from the street? (piled on a mantelpiece or table or stacked underneath your tree).  These really are ‘a gift’ to thieves, – they know the contents inside are ‘brand-new-in-box’ and are therefore very easy to sell.  Don’t tempt unwanted visitors into your home!

Moseley Farmers Market – Litter Strategy Launch

moseley farmers market

The weather was slightly better for our second Litter Strategy launch, this time at the Moseley Farmer’s Market.  We had a great response from traders and customers alike and lots of people stopped to chat about the aims of the litter strategy and tell us about the ways they already help to reduce litter in our area.

you can find out more about the litter strategy at www.gcsegroup.wordpress.com

Accord for You

Following a recent walkabout, Oz  (Moseley and Kings Heath Neighbourhood Warden) has organised a clean up for Newport Road supported by the Balsall Heath Forum, Ashrammoseley and others. If you live in the area or if you are keen to support such events the details are as follows:-

NEWPORT ROAD COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP

The Moseley and Kings Heath Neighbourhood Wardens are organising a Community Clean-up in Newport Road on Sunday 13th December starting at 11.00 am. We will be supported by Balsall Heath Forum and Ashrammoseley Housing Association.

The aim is to clean up all the litter and dumped rubbish in the street and we would appreciate any help with this from local people and businesses. We will be meeting at the Church Road end of Newport Road. The clean-up will last about an hour. We will provide neoprene gloves and as many litter-pickers as we can get hold of but…

WHO YOU GONNA CALL?….. about vulnerable people on our streets?

Sadly, as previously mentioned, the sun is setting on our days here at Warden Towers.  However, we are very keen to leave as much useful information on this blog as we can, so that the people of Moseley and Kings Heath can keep the Warden spirit alive!

One of our most important and rewarding roles has been supporting vulnerable street drinkers and rough sleepers in our area, linking them with support agencies who can support them with practical help such as food and clothes, but also support them onto treatment programs.

Below are a list of contact numbers that you can call if you see someone on the streets of Moseley and Kings Heath who you think needs help.
